FLY FISHING CANTERBURY
Mt Hutt Helicopters is uniquely placed with close access to the Rakaia and Rangitata Rivers, spectacular New Zealand alpine fed rivers renowned for their world class fly fishing. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the Canterbury back country while you fish for salmon, brown and rainbow trout in any number of crystal clear alpine rivers or lakes.
Brown Trout are found in the rivers and lakes throughout the South Island while the Rainbow Trout prefers the cooler waters of alpine fed streams and lakes. Lake Coleridge, situated along the Rakaia Gorge, is home to the landlocked Quinnat Salmon while the braided East Coast river systems hold sea-run Chinook Salmon.
Mt Hutt Helicopters can arrange a charter for both private and guided fishing trips and we can cater for 1-5 fishermen per trip. All fishermen require a fishing license, available at most sports shops or from the Fish & Game website.
The season for fly fishing in New Zealand is October through to April.
Mt Hutt Helicopters is uniquely placed a short flight from the best New Zealand game hunting with trophy red stags, Himalayan thar, chamois and pigs on our doorstep. Mt Hutt Helicopters can transport you to a number of DOC hunting grounds as well as having access to some exclusive private locations and, with excellent local knowledge, can advise you on animal movements in the area. We can arrange a guide for you or alternatively a drop off-pick up service for your hunting party.
Using our AS350 Squirrel or 520N (Notar) we can accommodate 3 to 5 hunters and equipment.
New Zealand’s hunting season is year round but best between April and August – a hunting permit is required if hunting on Department of Conservation land and all hunters need a firearms licence.Contact Us
