Experience a heli-biking adventure and enjoy the solitude of the South Island high country. Take a scenic helicopter ride into the tussock foothills of the Southern Alps and be dropped into a remote high country location to start your biking adventure.

The tracks are generally well defined and easy to follow – intermediate level (level 3/4) and a reasonable level of fitness is required.

  • Comyns Hut - 15km biking adventure

    Starting with a 10min scenic helicopter flight from our Forks Road hangar and winding up the north branch of the Ashburton River to Comyns Hut. From here your adventure starts following the track along Turton Stream. Crossing it several times as well as climbing and descending through gullies and plateaus as you make your way to Turton Saddle. From here take time to marvel at the spectacular views and landscapes of the Rakaia Gorge before embarking on a thrilling 5½km descent down to the Rakaia River. Return to Forks Road by van.

  • The A-Frame – 9km biking adventure

    For those with less time this trip will be perfect. From our hangar at Forks Road, wind your way up the North Ashburton River on a scenic helicopter flight to the small A-Frame hut located on the Te Araroa track. From here your biking adventure begins following the well defined track as it crosses Turton Stream. A short climb takes you up onto a large plateau with descents and climbs through gullies before bringing you to the grandeur of Turton Saddle. Enjoy spectacular views of the Rakaia Gorge before descending over 5km to the valley floor. Return to Forks Road by van.

  • Turton Saddle – 5½ km downhill track

    For those wanting a fun downhill experience or if you’ve got time restrictions then this adventure is for you. Departing from our hangar at Forks Road enjoy a 15min scenic flight amongst the peaks and valleys of the North Ashburton River and out onto Turtons Saddle with its spectacular views of the Rakaia Gorge. From your drop off point its all downhill! The track is well defined with some steeper rocky parts and some faster grassy areas providing fun for the novice or experience rider alike. Descent time: between 30 -45 minutes. Return to Forks Road by van.
